　After graduating from university, Chips worked for a design company before setting up his own office in 1989, where he has created and presented a number of illustration works through advertisements and publications. From 2012 to 2024, Chips taught illustration and design education at Onomichi City University in Hiroshima Prefecture. Currently, he is continuing his activities as an artist and presenting many works in solo and group exhibitions.

　Chips' works include a wide variety of sculptures and photographs of colored wood sculptures of people and animals called “Toys” and illustrations painted on wood panels, which are sometimes combined with text or poetry to form a series of works. The characters, which utilize materials such as wood, metal, and acrylic paint, have a simple charm as well as a touch of melancholy. The images that emerge invite the viewer to freely play with associations to various parts of the world, to the past, to a different kind of present, and to dreams. While traveling through the world of the work, the viewer may find himself or herself returning to the mind of a child. The time you spend in the dream may seem fleeting, but your precious memories will visit you again and again.

　Chipsは、大学卒業後、デザイン会社勤務ののち1989年より個人事務所を構え、広告や出版を通して数多くのイラストレーション作品を制作・発表してきました。また2012年から2024年まで広島県の尾道市立大学でイラストレーションを中心としたデザイン教育に携わりました。現在は作家としての活動を継続しながら個展やグループ展などで作品を発表しています。

　chipsの作品は、Toysと呼ばれる着色した木でひとや動物をかたどった立体作品やその写真、木材パネルにペイントされたイラストレーションなど非常に多岐にわたり、ときにテキストや詩と組み合わせられてシリーズ（組作品）を成しています。木材と金属、アクリル絵の具といった素材が生かされたキャラクターには、素朴な愛らしさとともに一片の哀愁が漂います。湧き出るイメージは世界のあちこちへ、あるいは過去へ、別様の今へ、そして夢の中へと、自由自在な連想の遊びへと誘います。作品世界を旅するうちに、観る者はいつしか童心にかえっていることに気づくかもしれません。夢中で過ごす時間は一瞬のように思えても、大切な記憶は幾度もあなたを訪れてくれるのです。
